We dream what is truest about ourselves

The wind walked right up to me

pressed against my lungs

and reclaimed the breath

I had been borrowing

one hard kiss

honeymooning me into

in-betweenness

Here, I found the secret medicines

Earth

Wind

Water

Fire

and grew into a wildfire

racing across the foothills

but my love is violent

swallowing green branches

bud-less but bountiful

wrapping the keys of life

into rings

and rings

and rings of knowing

We dream what is truest about ourselves

I am just a whipping sapling

clinging to black earth

waiting until it is time

for me to rise

and rise

and rise
